Common Causes of High Blood Pressure?

There are two types of high blood pressure:

  • Primary hypertension – often unexplained; thought to be caused by ageing.
  • Secondary hypertension – high blood pressure with an underlying cause.

The amount of blood your heart pumps versus the amount of resistance to blood flow in your arteries determines your blood pressure.

Factors that put you at risk of high blood pressure include:

Lifestyle:

  • Diet – High fat and high salt diets put you at risk of high blood pressure.
  • Smoking – Smoking damages your lungs and weakens your arteries.
  • Alcohol – Excessive alcohol can raise blood pressure.
  • Stress – Stress may cause your blood pressure to rise temporarily.

Other Factors:

  • Age – It’s common for your blood pressure to increase as you age.
  • Illness – if you have a chronic condition, it can raise blood pressure.
  • Medications – Certain prescribed drugs can cause elevated blood pressure.
  • Family History – Some families inherit high blood pressure.

CBD for High Blood Pressure

CBD is used in drugs used to treat epilepsy. During the trails for these epilepsy drugs, doctors noticed that CBD also reduced the observed patients’ blood pressure.

To further explore CBD’s possibility of reducing BP, a double-blind trial of nine healthy males was carried out; some took CBD capsules while others were given a placebo.

The result of this study indicated that a single 600mg daily dose can be useful and caused no adverse side effects during the study.

‘‘Our data show that a single dose of CBD reduces resting blood pressure and the blood pressure response to stress, particularly cold stress, and especially in the post-test periods. This may reflect the anxiolytic and analgesic effects of CBD, as well as any potential direct cardiovascular effects. CBD also affected cardiac parameters but without affecting cardiac output.’

The results showed the following in volunteers who took the daily CBD dose Vs. the placebo group.

  • Reduced Stroke Volumes.
  • Maintained Cardiac Output.
  • Reduced resting Systolic BP.
  • Increased heart rate.
  • Reduced BP before and after exposure to stresses.

No side effects were reported by the volunteers who took the CBD capsules.

CBD for High Blood Pressure: What Is CBD?

CBD works with the body’s Endocannabinoid System (ECS) that controls your body’s homeostasis. Homeostasis is a system of pathways in your body that maintain your health and well-being. It achieves this by maintaining and adjusting the biochemical pathways that connect all the body’s systems and organs.

The ECS is responsible for pain management (inflammation), appetite, sleep, and memory. It is thought that CBD can improve the body’s responses to the ECS system to help relieve pain, anxiety, and sleeplessness. While studies are ongoing, people have understood CBD’sCBD’s benefits, which, unlike THC, is non-psychotic for decades. The discovery of the ECS helped science to understand why CBD affected the body.

How Do I Take CBD for High Blood Pressure?

No two people are the same, and as a result, our bodies will metabolize CBD differently.

The study referenced above gave the volunteers 600mg of CBD in the form of two daily capsules. While CBD is safe, 600mg is a high-level dose for a beginner. It’s better to begin at a lower dose and build up over time.

It’s suitable for the first two weeks to take notes to see how you feel both before and after taking your CBD dose.

If, after the first week, you feel no effects, gradually increase your dose. Increase your dose weekly, not daily, and only by small amounts.
