Request a closed-door meeting with your manager in their office, and outline your concerns clearly. Writing it down first may help organize your thoughts. If you feel anxious, it’s okay to say that before you begin. If possible, suggest a plan of how to reduce your workload so that you can discuss it with the manager. 

It can feel like a bad decision to discuss that you are suffering from work anxiety with your employer, but they have a duty of care to their employees. You may be offered an opportunity to see a mental health professional, which will help reduce your anxiety. 


Plan Your Day

If you get up late and are racing to work with a coffee in hand, you will arrive at work stressed. Easing yourself into going to bed a little earlier, and getting up on time to have a healthy breakfast, will set you up for the day, come what may.

No matter how busy you are, take a break. If it means walking around the staff car park with an umbrella in the rain, go for a short walk. This will help you to mentally unwind from a busy morning. If the canteen has no healthy options, bring lunch. Even a piece of fruit will help keep your energy levels up.


Socialize & Exercise 

Make your weekends about you. Walking is a great way to get up and out of the house.

Take up a hobby or join a like-minded group or club. If you can, meet up with friends over a coffee. 

Don’t spend the weekend in bed, no matter how tired you feel. It’s important to have a mental break between work and home. Anxiety can drive many to binge eat or turn to alcohol to self-soothe. This is not a good idea. You deserve your good health, and this is not how to achieve that.
